CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu-based PROMDI partylist officially announced that it is vying for seats in the May 12, 2025 National and Local elections.
In a press conference, PROMDI chairman Mariano “Mimo” Osmeña confirmed that he is the first nominee, as he also announced their other nine nominees.
Osmeña also said that since PROMDI is also a political party, they have a total of 187 candidates in various positions, except for congressmen, joining the next year’s election.
In Cebu, PROMDI have candidates in the towns of Pinamungahan, Consolacion, Catmon, and Aloguinsan.
For the senatorial candidates, PROMDI will be supporting the senatorial bid of former senator Manny Pacquiao.
Osmeña said that the main aim of PROMDI is to disperse development to the countryside as one way of decongesting traffic in urban areas and making employment more accessible to the countryside.
Osmeña explained that once more power, water, and roads are in place in the countryside, that is where economic development comes in.
Osmeña added if given a chance that their partylist will win, they will be making more laws that would benefit the people, especially in the provinces.
PROMDI, which stands for Progressive Movement for the Devolution of Initiatives, was founded by Emilio “Lito” Osmeña when he ran for President of the Philippines in the 1998 Philippine presidential election.
Lito, former Cebu Governor, is the father of Mimo. — (FREEMAN)
