CEBU, Philippines — As he is set to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) today, Cebu City Councilor Nestor Archival gets an endorsement from the Movement for Transformative Politics (MTP), an umbrella organization of different non-government organizations operating in the City.

Yesterday, MTP leaders formally announced their support for Archival, who is Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) candidate for Mayor.

MTP has long been endorsing candidates for elections emphasizing on good governance. Its members include leaders from the urban poor, transportation sector, educators, businessmen, and entrepreneurs.

Archival will be running with former mayor Tomas Osmeña as his vice mayor. Their slate is expected to file their COCs this afternoon.

Engr. Boboy Dungog, an entrepreneur, said their support stemmed from the length of initiatives Archival has done for the city. He said that he was from the masses and always topped the councilorial battle during the elections.

He added that Archival has “systematic” solutions to every concern and it is about time that an Engineer will sit as Mayor of Cebu City.

Former Cebu City Alvin Dizon also spoke from his experience in working with Archival for six years in the City Council. Dizon also noted a particular ordinance that he co-wrote with Archival: the banning the use of single-use plastics as among the efforts for climate action.

Archival laid down his platform and vows to be the champion of environmental protection. He added that with the right environmental approaches, it will improve agricultural production especially during drought.

The councilor also promised transparency in the bidding of projects being entered into by the city government.  — (FREEMAN)
