OPASCOR assures continued operations amid labor row

CEBU, Philippines — The Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR) has assured that its main focus is still its continuous operations amidst the labor dispute filed by its employees’ union.

In a statement released by OPASCOR yesterday to its employees, retirees, shareholders, and partners, it vowed to secure the company’s future while also looking after its people.

“Our focus at OPASCOR remains clear and steadfast: securing the company's future while protecting the people who sustain it. We are fully engaged in addressing the recent Notice of Strike through the appropriate channels and processes,” OPASCOR said pertaining to the labor dispute between the management and the employees’ union– the OPASCOR Employees Union-Associated Labor Unions-TUCP.

OPASCOR said that it is committed to a resolution that balances the well-being of its employees with the long-term stability of the company.

Further, OPASCOR has reassured its stakeholders-employees, retirees, shareholders, and partners-that its operations at the Cebu International Port (CIP) continues uninterrupted.

Established in 1990, OPASCOR is a worker’s enterprise engaged in the service of cargo handling operations in CIP.

“Operations at Cebu International Port continue without interruption. We are fully dedicated to maintaining the reliable service you have come to expect from us, while ensuring that we all move forward with strength and purpose. We sincerely thank you for your support and confidence in us,” OPASCOR added.

Earlier, the employees’ union filed a notice of strike on September 19, 2024, before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board-7. The union is composed of 449 employees.

The notice of strike was filed by Dennis Arciaga, the president of the union (ALU-Local 1).

In filing the notice of strike against the management, Arciaga cited Collective Bargaining Agreement violations, union busting, discrimination of wages, number of hours work and other terms and conditions of employment in order to discourage membership. (CEBU NEWS)
