CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City was awarded as the second top performing city among all Highly-Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in the Philippines for the growth of its locally-sourced income for fiscal year 2022.
In a statement, currently suspended Mayor Jonas Cortes said that this achievement is a testament to the hardwork of every individual in his administration and the trust of the Mandauehanons.

Cortes said that the city continues to move forward with resilience and determination and this recognition from the Bureau of Local Government and Finance (BLGF) reflects their commitment to sustainable growth and responsible governance.
It's a testament to the hard work of every individual in our administration and the trust of our people. We are not just building a better today we are laying the foundation for an even stronger tomorrow, Cortes further said.
Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva also expressed gratitude to the dedication of the treasury and assessment teams, whose effort and commitment, she said, has made it possible for them to achieve this recognition.
This achievement is a testament to the collective effort of many. I extend my deepest appreciation to Mayor Jonas Cortes for his visionary leadership and unwavering support. Under his guidance, our city has flourished, and together, we continue to reach new heights, Oliva said, adding, it is truly an honor to lead such an efficient, effective, and formidable team.
Most importantly, Oliva said that the recent recognition would not also be possible without the taxpayers of Mandaue.
