CEBU, Philippines — Danao City Mayor Thomas “Mix” Durano said that with the recent launching of the city’s first-ever Tourism Summit 2024, Danao is now more than ready aligned to their vision on becoming a resilient city

Durano said Danao is not just the Bike Capital of Cebu, the home of the Karansa Festival, and the gateway of the north, but it is also one of the key tourism hubs in the province and the Visayas.

“We just don’t boast about our city out of nowhere, established institutions such as the Department of Trade and Industry or DTI through their flagship programs the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index or CMCI recently recognized Danao City as topmost/number 1 most improved component city out of 116 component city nationwide,” he said.

Danao City ranked first among the component cities in Cebu and third in the Visayas Region based on infrastructure, economic resilience, government efficiency, disaster and resilience, and innovation.

Danao City Investment and Promotions officer Red Durano said they will continue to build and expand their networks such as their sisterhood agreements with llocos Norte and soon with Kashima City in Japan.

He added that that by mid-2025, the first IT BPM building will be established in Danao City.

“Part of the long-term goal of the city aligned to its digitalization roadmap is the construction and establishment of Danao City Techno Business Park,” he said.

He added that the Danao City Sports Complex and Convention Center will also be built to accommodate huge events and concerts to boost the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) business in Danao City.

Danao City Councilor Ivy Durano said that sustainable tourism is essential for Danao City as it ensures that while they grow and develop, they do not lose the unique attributes that make their city special.

“By focusing on sustainability, we protect our environment, support local communities, and create long-term economic benefits. Let’s dive into what sustainable tourism means for us,” she said.

She added Danao City has implemented several key policies aimed at promoting sustainable tourism like regulations on sustainable tourism development, cultural preservation, environmental protection, community involvement in tourism, infrastructure development, and security and safety policies. — (FREEMAN)
