Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Less than a year from the 2025 elections, Gender and Development (GAD) focal persons in Cebu City are reminded to stay away from politics and to always provide equal service to everyone beyond colors.

This reminder was stressed during the City’s GAD Federation anniversary celebration attended by GAD and Violence Against Women (VAW) focal persons.

Carrying the theme “Empowering Humanity, Gender Equality, as Fundamental Rights,” Cebu City Women and Family Affairs Commission (CCWFAC) Executive Director Jojo Lingaolingao stressed to the focal persons the importance of giving service to everyone in need.

“Just do the right thing, service above self, service beyond colors, serbisyo nga gikinahanglan, ilabina sa mga kabus ug sa mga tawo, nga dili tawon ihikaw kanila ang serbisyo,” said Lingaolingao.

Lingaolingao further reminded everyone to do their jobs well without politicking ahead of the election season.

“It’s not about politics, it’s not about the coming elections. All we have to give is our passion and dedication to service. So we are here to serve as public servants no matter what,” added Lingaolingao.

GAD focals play a crucial role in promoting gender mainstreaming within organizations.

They are involved in the planning and budgeting for various programs, projects, and activities (PPAs), as well as in data collection.

They also lead in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about gender issues and is involved in providing technical assistance and support to other offices or units within the organization on gender mainstreaming among others.

Gender mainstreaming is the process of looking into the needs and interests of both men and women and making plans and policies for it that is equal for all. –/ATO (FREEMAN)
