2 afternoon fires hit cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines — Forty families lost their homes in a late afternoon fire at Sitio Cyco Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City, Thursday afternoon, June 27, 2024, causing an estimate damage of P2.1 million.

Based on the initial report of the Cebu City Fire Station, the fire that hit the residential area affected 108 individuals or 40 families, and 27 houses were hit with 21 destroyed and six partially damaged.

One was also injured in the fire identified as Michael Corpuz, 44, a security guard, and a resident of the said barangay, who sustained second-degree burns in his arms.

In the initial investigation of authorities, the fire reportedly started at the house of a certain Edwin Tamaran around 5:19 p.m. and was under control at 5:58 pm. It was declared fire out at 6:26 p.m.

Meanwhile, another fire also hit the same day in Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

A house owned by Joseph Alcoseba was burned, which damage was pegged at P32,000.

Alcoseba’s two children were in the house during the incident, but luckily everybody got out in time and no one was reported wounded in the incident.

According to the Lapu-Lapu City Fire Station, the fire started around 1 pm and was declared fire out 40 minutes after.

Authorities are still looking into the cause of both incidents. (CEBU NEWS)
