Palace declares June 17 a holiday in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines — Malacañang has declared holidays in 11 areas, including Lapu-Lapu City, to allow residents to commemorate key local events.

The local holidays were declared in separate proclamations signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of President Marcos last May 27.

Proclamation No. 558 declared June 17 a special holiday in Lapu-Lapu City to commemorate the city’s 63rd charter anniversary.

Proclamation No. 554 also declared June 11 a special non-working day in Rizal province to mark its 123rd founding anniversary.

Two proclamations seek to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, the second largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century that affected the provinces of Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija. Proclamations 555 and 556 declared June 15 a special non-working day in the province of Pampanga and Angeles City, respectively, to ensure that their residents would remember the lessons learned from the disaster.

Bersamin also signed Proclamation No. 557, which declared June 21 a holiday in Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur to mark its 17th charter anniversary; and

Holidays were also declared in Maco, Davao de Oro, which is celebrating its 57th founding anniversary on June 17 (Proclamation No. 559); Presentacion, Camarines Sur, which is commemorating its 63rd charter anniversary on June 18 (Proclamation No. 560); Balete, Batangas, which is having its 55th founding anniversary on June 21 (Proclamation No. 561) and Santa Teresita, Cagayan, which is celebrating its founding anniversary on June 22 (Proclamation No. 563).

Two holiday proclamations were also signed to allow local residents to join local festivities. Proclamation No. 562 declared June 21 a special non-working day in Maasim, Sarangani, which is celebrating its 55th founding anniversary and holding the 17th Kestebeng Festival. Proclamation No. 564, meanwhile, declared June 24 a holiday in Masbate due to the Bagat-Dagat Festival. (CEBU NEWS)
