Rosquillos Fest organizers, participants to get subsidy
CEBU, Philippines — Organizers and participants of the just-concluded Rosquillos Festival will receive the much-needed subsidy mainly from the Capitol to defray the cost of their expenses in last weekend’s event in Liloan.
A total of P6.4 million-worth of funds, mainly from the Capitol, have been poured in for the event.
The Capitol’s official news network, Sugbo News, reported that P4.2 million came from the Capitol.
Of the total amount from the Capitol, Fifth District Board Member Red Duterte, on behalf of Gov. Gwen Garcia, announced that host Liloan gets P2 million to help defray its socio-cultural expenses.
Each of the 11 contingents from clustered barangays in Liloan, for their part, will receive P200,000 each in financial assistance from the Capitol.
Aside from that, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco and husband, Deputy Speaker Duke Frasco, also added a combined P2.2 million for the contingents.
With that, each contingent secured P400,000 in subsidies each.
The Rosquillos Festival, celebrated every fourth Saturday of May, honors its patron saint, San Fernando El Rey.
It also showcases the local delicacy known as “Rosquillos,” derived from the Spanish word “rosca,” meaning ring.
These circular cookies with flower-like edges were first baked in 1907 by Margarita “Titay” Frasco using her clay oven.
The battle over the weekend saw Banay Madasigong Tablequehanon as the grand champion of the ritual showdown.
Banay Madasigong Tablequehanon also reigned supreme in the street dancing competition while also going away with the best costume, best graphic design, best intro video, and best musicality.
