P571M drugs seized in Central Visayas in four months

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7 has seized P570.7 million worth of illegal drugs from January 1 to April 28, 2024.

Leia Alcantara, PDEA-7 spokesperson, said their record shows that the agency confiscated 83.88 kilos of shabu; 5.95 grams of dried marijuana leaves; 12,540 Marijuana plants; and 205 ampoules of Nalbuphine hydrochloride during the first four months of the year.

This, she said, is because PDEA-7 has not let up in its operations against illegal drugs, such as the destruction of drug dens that they describe as breeding grounds for criminals.

In fact, she added, 19 drug dens have been destroyed, with 12 of them in Cebu City, has been destroyed during their operations in Central Visayas.

Alcantara said they expected that there are several drug dens in Cebu City because it is where most people converge for work, as transit point, live, and for other reasons.

She said PDEA-7 considered the destruction of drug dens as high impact operations. — (FREEMAN)
