CEBU, Philippines — Several persons suffered varying levels of injuries when a van-for-hire (v-hire) on its way to Cebu City spun out of control and overturned at the portion of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Brgy. Pilipog, Cordova, Cebu yesterday afternoon.

As of press time, authorities have yet to establish all the identities and the exact number of the passengers, who were brought to various hospitals in Cebu City.

Police Major Joffre Grande, Cordova Municipal Police Station chief, said the v-hire (GEB 5955) was traversing the CCLEX around 2 p.m. when its right rear tire burst, causing the driver to lose control.

“Actually, approaching sila sa bridge na gyud,” Grande said.

The van, Grande said, then spun and overturned, resulting to the injuries of the passengers.

In a video taken by one Clark Dela Cruz, the passengers can be seen bleeding, with a few of them limping while others were unconscious while being helped by emergency responders.

Grande said they are still investigating whether or not the van, driven by Christopher Tuñacao of Brgy. Tawason, Mandaue City was moving too fast.

He said they were still determining how many people were in the van and which hospitals they were brought to.  — (FREEMAN)
