UNWTO to meet in Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu is set to host big meetings on tourism this June, in particular the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

From June 26 to 28 the members of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and Pacific (RDAP) and the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia will have their meeting.

RDAP is the political arm of UNWTO responsible for the coordination, follow-up and implementation of activities done for the member-states in the Asia Pacific region. This is one of the six regional commissions of UNWTO. Also included in the regional commissions is the Tourism Commission for South Asia.

The UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific will be having its activity in Cebu on June 26 to 27. The said conference will serve as a platform celebrating the power of gastronomy tourism where destination and international experts will have exchanging of knowledge and best practices benefiting the local communities and environment.

The meeting of these tourism commissions is an annual activity where participants from the UN Tourism states, including affiliate members and regional and international organizations, come together.

As these meetings will be held in Cebu, the Cebu provincial government will be hosting a lunch and dinner for the delegates.  The Capitol will also offer a guided tour on southern heritage trail for the participants.

The UNWTO is the agency of the United Nations responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and accessible tourism.
