CEBU, Philippines — A Korean national died while two others were arrested after allegedly robbing a fellow Korean businessman in a high-end subdivision in Brgy. Banilad, Cebu City in the evening of April 2, 2024.

The police have identified the dead suspect as Sun Yong Choi, 47, while the two others arrested are Yong Hee Kim, 45, and Jun Hee Kim, 49.

The three suspects were temporarily residing in the same subdivision where the incident happened.

According to Police Major Romeo Caacoy of Mabolo Police Station, the police went to the area to respond to a call of a robbery inside the subdivision.

The victim was identified as Korean national Sangdon Lee.

There were also two house helpers inside the victim’s house who were present during the robbery.

Upon arriving at the area, Caacoy said the responding officers asked the suspects to surrender to authorities but one of the suspects allegedly fired at the officers, which resulted in the encounter and the death of Choi.

A police officer was injured in the shooting.

Recovered from the crime scene were three handguns, cash money, two pieces of Patek Philippe watches, and pieces of jewelry.

Caacoy said they have yet to determine if the suspects and the victim know each other prior to the incident.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted and Caacoy said they are looking at all possible angles.

The arrested Korean nationals are currently detained at Mabolo Police Station while waiting for the charges to be filed against them. – /ATO (FREEMAN)
