Seniors urged to register for Centenarians cash gift

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council is pushing for the registration of senior citizens in the city with the National Commission of Senior Citizens’ elderly data management.

Cebu City Councilor Rey Gealon recently submitted a resolution, which was unanimously approved by the council, that pushes for the registration of senior citizens in the city so they can receive the cash gift from the national government, particularly centenarians.

The resolution is in line with Republic Act no.11982 otherwise known as the Amendments to the Centenarian Act, which President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. recently signed.

This act provides P10,000 worth of cash gifts for all Filipinos reaching the ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95, while those who reach the age of 100 are entitled to P100,000.

With this development, Gealon stressed that it is necessary for senior citizens to register with the National Commission of Senior Citizens’ elderly data management, through the commission's website, to effect a fast and prompt distribution of cash gifts.

Along with this, the City Council has requested the City’s Office of the Senior Citizens’ Affairs “to advise senior citizens living within the city's jurisdiction to register with the National Commission of Senior Citizens' elderly data management, through the commission's website".

Aside from that, the City Council also requested for Congress to include in the national budget the amount necessary for the implementation of the Amendments to the Centenarian Act starting next year.

"Its inclusion in the national budget is necessary for the prompt distribution of the cash gifts, as well as the certainty of its disbursement," read part of the council resolution.(CEBU NEWS)
