CEBU, Philippines — Former Bureau of Customs commissioner Yogi Felimon Ruiz the other day said he is running for mayor in the 2025 elections because he wants make Cebu City the “best and safest city” in the Philippines.

In a press conference, he laid out what he intends to do if elected, saying he came up with the plans after observing how the city “deteriorated through the years and the dismal peace and order.”

The former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 regional director said he now has the of 65 Cebu City barangay captains as well as legitimate businessmen. He said he believes that the people of Cebu City want change so they would propel him to be the next mayor of Cebu City.

In terms of campaign finance, he said he has his own savings and several friends who are now supporting his “dreams and aspirations of healing Cebu City from too much politics to the point that basic services are being neglected.”

He said he would launch his political party, Partido Cebuano, next month, when he would also announce his runningmate as well as their candidates for city councilors and district representatives.

“Try the best choice. I have nothing else in my heart but to provide the best service to the Cebuanos. I’m not a politician. I am not here for politics.  I am here to provide the best service to the Cebuanos,” he said when asked why the Cebuanos should vote for him.

“If we can make Cebu City the safest city in the Philippines then I am already successful in one of my desires. If you give me the trust then I will give you the best service to provide true change, for true progress, for true safety for all Cebuanos,” he added.
