Slain cop honored
CEBU, Philippines — A Medalya ng Kadakilaan was awarded to the family of slain Police Corporal Gilbert Amper in recognition of his heroic act.
Amper was killed in action during an encounter with the alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) in Bilar town, Bohol Friday last week. Police Regional Office (PRO-7) director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin personally handed the recognition to the family.
Aberin was joined by Police Major General Robert Rodriguez, commander of the Area Police Command-Visayas (APC-Visayas), and Major General Marion Sison, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.
Financial assistance worth P1 million from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc. was also extended to the family of the fallen hero. Amper was killed in an encounter between the state forces and the communist group in Barangay Campagao, Bilar, Bohol, last week.
Aberin also visited Police Corporal Gerard Rollon, who was wounded in the same encounter, at the hospital to extend financial assistance and to personally pin on him a Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting.
Five rebels led by Domingo Compoc were also killed in the encounter. The other fatalities were identified as Parlito Segovia alias Aldrin; Marlon Omosura alias Darwin; Hannah Joy Cecista alias Maya/Lean; and a certain alias Juaning. — FPL (CEBU NEWS)
