CEBU, Philippines — The Cansaga Bay Bridge and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) are now under the supervision of the Metro-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) chaired by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Garcia met with the members of the MCBMB at the Capitol last Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ahong Chan, and Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan along with LTO-7 director Glen Galario, LTFRB-7 director Eduardo Montealto, and Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. president and GM Allan Alfon Jr. and other stakeholders.

A “collective decision” was made concerning MCBMB’s jurisdiction of the Cansaga and CCLEX as reported by the Capitol’s Sugbo News page.

With the addition of Cansaga Bay Bridge and CCLEX, there are now four bridges under MCBMB’s supervision. The other two being the Sergio Osmeña bridge and the Marcelo Fernan bridge.

As such, the Cansaga Bridge and CCLEX will now be part of the on-going development of the bridges under MCBMB including putting up of high definition CCTV cameras and solar lights to ensure safety and security of motorists and commuters passing on the bridges.

Based on Executive Order 181 signed by former president Joseph Estrada, the board’s main functions are to review and approve policies, plans, projects, rules and regulation necessary for the development, maintenance and use of the Mactan-Cebu bridges.

The board will also coordinate and ensure the effective implementation of the said policies, plans, projects, rules and regulations by the concerned agencies.

MCBMB is also given the power to generate and administer funds and other resources needed for the operations of the board, its technical working groups and the support staff. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
