Ex-councilman falls in buy-bust

CEBU, Philippines — A former barangay councilor of Tangke, Talisay City was arrested with in a buy-bust operation with 200 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P1.3 million.

Romeo Dela Cruz Santillan Jr., 44 years old, and a resident of Sitio Salvador, Tangke, Talisay was arrested on the evening of Jan. 6, 2024, at Purok Sambag, Barangay San Roque, in the same city.

Santillan, who is reportedly identified as a high-value drug personality, was arrested in an operation conducted by the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) personnel of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), led by Police Lieutenant Francis Russue Salvid and personnel from the Talisay City police station.

Seized from the Santillan were a gray belt bag, buy-bust money, and multiple plastic sachets of suspected shabu.

According to the information released by authorities, Santillan can dispose a kilogram of shabu weekly in Talisay City.

Santillan has been turned over to the Talisay City police station for temporary detention, and charges will be filed against him for violations of Sec. 5 and 11, Art. II of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (CEBU NEWS)
