7-storey building rising soon at Taboan market
CEBU, Philippines — The Taboan Market in San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City will soon be renovated as a seven-storey building serving as the identity of the “Buwad-Capital of The Philippines.”
This is according to Barangay Captain Clifford June Niñal in an interview Friday.
“Unya ang naa sa ubos ana bularan nga display nya mga offices,” Niñal told The Freeman of some of their plans.
According to him, among those they are targeting to utilize the space for are the families that will be displaced during the clearing operations of the violators of the three-meter-easement.
Niñal stated that the structure will be like a medium-rise-building. The whole area is approximately 1.7 hectares.
According to Niñal, the renovation was motivated by a contractor’s opinion that the market is no longer that strong.
“Kay karaan naman gud sya kaayo,” said Niñal.
The renovation was started during the time of congressman Rodrigo “Bebot” Abellanosa with a budget allocation of P10 million. Niñal, however, said that the renovation wasn’t continued.
Currently, Niñal also said they are receiving complaints that the current market structure has been posing danger adding that they were even falling objects being observed.
“Siguro two months na. Mao to nga gipaanhan gyud nako ang disaster, ila na ng gitan-aw kay nireklamo na gyud ko may simbako ba, matumpagan na dira. Mao na akong giingon nga kailangan ASAP gyud na,” said Niñal.
The current market has also been observed to already be shaking, pushing Niñal to also take measures in reporting it to the city government, hence the renovation.
The existing Taboan Market has two floors. Its plans for renovations have already been submitted to the Office of the Mayor.
The renovation, according to Niñal, will also equate to a cleaner Taboan Market. The said project is set off to take off grounds this 2024 which initial plans are seen as no-cost to the city. (CEBU NEWS)
