PSHSS holds first system-wide technology pitching session

CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) recently held its First System-Wide Technology Pitching that featured 31 intellectual properties of their scholars, teachers, and staff from its 16 campuses.

The event served as a platform for PSHS inventors and local entrepreneurs to come together and showcase cutting-edge technologies, engage in meaningful discussions, and explore potential collaborations.

The activity is under the “Developing the Technology Transfer Capacity of the PSHSS”, which is a joint project between the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development and DOST-PSHS System in collaboration with the Association of Patent Agent Qualifying Examination Professionals.

Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., DOST Secretary, expressed his admiration and excitement for the technology presented through a recorded message.

PSHSS Executive Director Lilia T. Habacon hoped that the pitched technology will spark inspiration, fuel innovation, and pave a way for a future where technology knows no bounds.

Dr. Rachel Luz V. Rica, campus director of the Philippine Science School-Central Visayas Campus, has acknowledged the creativity of the technology inventors.

Dr. Maridon O. Sahagun, DOST Undersecretary, reassured DOST’s support to assist innovators for the pursuit of STEM and the benefit of society.

The pitching was divided into six clusters namely: Agri-Aqua Products/Equipment, Food Products, Transportation Technology, Medical and Health Technology, Environmental Technology (Waste Management and Clean Energy), and Information and Communication Technology.

Potential investors present during the event included Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Monarch Agricultural Products, Inc., ADA Manufacturing Corporation, and RDF Feed Livestock & Foods, Inc.

Atty. Misael Costes of APP congratulated the inventors for their shared commitment of making the lives of the Filipino people better.  PCAARRD- Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) Director Noel A. Catibug has branded the pitching group to be the “best so far” and promised to forge a stronger partnership with PSHSS.

After the pitching event, the DOST delegation opened the first Technology Licensing Office (TLO) in the PSHS System.

It is located in the 3rd floor of the Acad 4 Building of the Philippine Science High School-Central Visayas Campus in Talaytay, Argao, Cebu.

The TLO aims to facilitate the identification, protection, and commercialization of innovative technology of the PSHS-CVisC community through strategies such as licensing, partnerships, and startup creation, ultimately contributing to the societal and economic impact of research while ensuring fair recognition and compensation for inventors and the institution.

One feature of the TLO is a “Makerspace” which aims to provide PSHS-CVisC scholars with a collaborative and creative environment where they can access tools, resources, and expertise to engage in hands-on learning, experimentation, and the collaborative creation of physical projects. — (FREEMAN)
