3 tourists killed in road accident

CEBU, Philippines — A vacation by tourists from Davao del Sur turned into tragedy when the van they were riding crashed into the railing of Camanayon Bridge, Barangay Buenos Aires, Carmen in the Province of Bohol.

Those who were killed in the accident were identified as Abelardo Cagampang, Marlon Dosdos and Janice Borbon while those injured were identified as Lucino Cagampang Jr., Jasper Argones and the driver of the van, Junre Cagampang, all from Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

According to Police Corporal Joey Baquiano, assistant investigator of the Carmen Municipal Police Station of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), Abelardo, Marlon and Janice were taken to the nearest hospital where they were pronounced dead.

According to the police investigation, the van carrying six passengers left Panglao Island in Bohol Monday morning and was supposed to be heading to one of the well-known tourist spots in Bohol, the Chocolate Hills.

The police revealed that the driver allegedly fell asleep while driving, causing the van to crash into the railing of the bridge.

Residents in the area and some motorists helped in the rescue of the passengers of the van, a Nissan NV350.

The driver of the van may face charges of reckless driving resulting in multiple homicide and injuries. — (FREEMAN)
