CEBU, Philippines — The 10 families living at the mouth of Estero de Parian, particularly those in Barangay San Roque, have now been evacuated after the city pushed through with its clearing activity of their dwellings that reportedly blocked the flow of water causing heavy flooding in nearby areas.

PROBE Head Aderson Comar earlier expressed to the Task Force Gubat sa Baha that no extension should be given anymore to these illegal settlers, as they are running out of time in clearing the area.

Yesterday, PROBE personnel, along with the city’s Engineering and other departments, pushed through with its scheduled clearing operations in the area.

Since most of the materials used in the structures along the river were made of light materials, the clearing activity was completed within just a day.

As of this writing, the majority of the affected families, which has over 60 individuals, are seeking temporary shelter at the barangay hall of San Roque.

They are given a month to move to its relocation site in Quiot, Pardo, Cebu City.

The Cebu City government had already set aside a relocation site for the families impacted by the clearing operations.

The families earlier also asked for financial assistance during their transfer, but City Councilor Jerry Guardo told The FREEMAN that it is either they accept financial assistance or a permanent spot for relocation.

Guardo, however, said the city government can help them move to their relocation site by providing them vehicles to transport their things and housing materials to start their life anew at the new location. –/GAN (FREEMAN)
