PB urges airlines: Improve services

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Board has urged airline companies to improve their services and respect the air passenger bill of rights.

PB Member Glenn Soco, in his resolutions the board approved on Monday, emphasized the need to improve airline services. Soco said several air travel passengers have been complaining on the policy of overbooking, delayed and cancellation of flights, as well as flight glitches and disruptions.

According to Soco, oftentimes when passengers are faced with these circumstances, most of them do not have the idea of their rightful claims and the processes that they are entitled with.

"Una sa tanan, katong mga nanglabay na buwan, ni escalate man to ang discussion sa mga complaints sa mga pasahero regarding sa mga serbisyo sa mga airlines so mao ni atong resolution na we are urging airline companies to improve their services," said Soco.

The other resolution has specifically urged airline companies to display the Air Passenger Bill of Rights of 2012 for reference and guidance to customers or passengers in conspicuous places.

The said bill states all the entitled compensation, processes, amenities and baggage privileges when circumstances of delayed or canceled flights and others are met by the passengers when travelling.

According to Soco, his resolution aims to educate the passengers more on their rightful claims and processes during air travels. He added that these rights should be visible to passengers.

"Kay duna man gyuy katungod ang mga pasahero og pananglitan ma delay, or ma cancel ang flight or dili sila kasakay because of the overbooking policy sa maong mga airlines," said Soco.

"So dapat unta if it is supposed to be the law that it should be cleared, and it should be displayed and it should even be printed in the ticket or contract of courage, it's the same," he added.

According to Soco, the airline companies will project that incidents such as flight delays and cancellations are projected as 'normal circumstances'.

Soco said that by requiring airline companies to display the air passenger bill of rights, passengers will be fully aware of their rights and prevent them from any discomfort when travelling.

"And we are just being careful, we are just actually asking the airline to be sensitive lang sad sa mga needs sa atong kaigsuonan," said Soco. — (FREEMAN)
