PDL stabbed by fellow inmate

CEBU, Philippines — A person deprived of liberty (PDL) is in critical condition after he was stabbed several times by a fellow inmate at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Sitio Soong, Barangay Mactan last Monday, September 18.

The victim was identified as Dennis Dumael who has been in prison for eight years now for rape. The suspect was identified as Darwel Tero.

Jail Officer 1 Dennis Balabat said the stabbing incident happened during the routine head count. Dumael, a trustee by the jail officials, was allegedly instructed to open the gates of the facility to start the head count but he was suddenly attacked by Tero.

The victim suffered 30 stab wounds in the different parts of his body. Jail officials eyed jealousy as motive in the attack. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect was jealous about his wife s having constant communication with the victim.

Meanwhile, a sales agent of a telecommunication company was shot dead Wednesday dawn by still unidentified gunman in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City. Police identified the victim as Chris Evert Lloyd Eduria, a native of Bantayan Island.

Witnesses said the victim was just playing an online game on his cellphone when the unknown gunman approached him without any provocation. The victim succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest. The suspect fled on board a motorcycle. — (FREEMAN)
