CEBU, Philippines — The Sinulog Foundation Incorporated (SFI) in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is hosting a two-day workshop for choreographers in preparation for the upcoming Sinulog.
The workshop will start on Friday, September 15, at the Cebu City Sports Center. SFI executive director Elmer Labella said this is the first time the CCP is helping out in conducting a workshop for Sinulog choreographers.
According to Labella, the CCP is providing lecturers for the workshop. In fact, one of the lecturers will be former CCP president and board member Nestor Jardin.
Jardin also sits as chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information.
“Duna silay facilitators nga mo demonstrate gyud actual action sa dancing, their actual experience in organizing the storyline unya adaptation sa ilang performance. I would say nga it’s really worthwhile,” said Labella.
The workshop dubbed as “Traditions and Transformation” is designed for choreographers in preparation for the Sinulog 2024. Participants are set to explore and learn various techniques and improvisations related to choreography, especially in the context of the arts and culture of the Sinulog.
Around 40 choreographers are expected to attend the workshop. SFI is prioritizing choreographers who will participate in next year’s festival.
“Atong tagaan og kahigayonan ang mga who will they be representing kay naa man uban karon nag rehistro moabot na og unom ang ilang gusto paapilon, dunay uban more than. So, ato lang ni tan-awon ron nga siguro di lang i-accommodate tanan kay ang gusto sa CCP 40 ra gyud ka taw ang actively participating,” Labella said. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
