Park, night market eyed in Taboan

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A more vibrant and clean Taboan Public Market with minipark and night market is expected soon.

Despite political differences, San Nicolas Proper barangay captain Clifford Jude Niñal commits to work hand-in-hand with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama in its vision of becoming Singapore-like city.

Rama visited several barangays over the weekend, including San Nicolas Proper, where he and Niñal discussed beautification and a night market at Taboan.

“Ako siya giingnan na walay problema kay parehas mig gusto nga mahinlo ug ma-improve pa gyud ning dapita and sa iyang vision to be Singapore-like,” said Niñal to The Freeman.

Niñal belongs to opposition Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) while Rama leading Partido Barug.

Niñal said some were putting color to Rama’s visit but he said they are just discussing concerns in the barangay.

As Rama talked about clearing the sidewalks, Niñal also shared to the mayor his long-time problem with illegal parking at the Taboan.

“Ang atubangan sa Taboan nga sige nakog reklamo nga gihimog parkingan, hawanan na…and wa nay mo overnight parking,” said Niñal.

Once cleared comes the beautification of the area.

“Pagkamahawan na na siya, bag-uhon, designan..murag park ba,” added Niñal.

Along with this, there will be a night market in the area.

“Unya anha na diha ebutang ang night market…Katong namaligya sa pikas sa side, kanang mga kan-anan ebalhin diha pati tong mga naninda dapit sa simbahan, ebalhin,” said Niñal.

To maintain the cleanliness in the area, Niñal said, they are also set to bid for dump trucks for the garbage but also hopes the city government will provide them more fuel allocation plus a driver and loader and a barangay environment officer (BEO).

“Unta madungagan pud among krudo ug mabalik ang loader and driver sa garbage truck kung naa ng among dump truck bag-o puhon pati BEO wala na..gitangtang man sa time ni Mayor Labella,” said Niñal.

Apart from that, Rama also encouraged Niñal to keep helping the homeless as he also vowed that his administration is also finding ways to help the less fortunate ones.

Gang War

Meanwhile, Niñal is also set to meet City Councilor Philip Zafra to discuss further his concern with some minors involved in a seemingly “gang war” that is becoming dangerous in their area at night recently.

“Dili gyud na sila taga amoa, pero mangabot sa among barangay, magnilabayay botelya inig ka gabie, maggukdanay, delikado kaayo..among atang-atangan pero maayo pud manago mga bataa maong patabang mig sulban ani,” said Niñal. — GMR (FREEMAN)
