CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) has recommended the removal of five Mahogany trees at Sitio Tugas 2 in Barangay Guadalupe for the safety of the public.
According to the CCENRO, a certain Ma. Felina Fernandez requested for the removal of the trees as it pose danger to the residents and the general public.
After the examination and ocular inspection on the subject property, the existence of the trees was confirmed by the office.
With this, the CCENRO requested the City Council to pass a resolution interposing no objection to the removal of the Mahogany trees.
“None of the affected trees are considered as premium trees or especially protected under existing laws. Moreover, the CCENRO inspectors recommend the trees by removal procedures,” said CCENRO head Editha Peros.
“It is, therefore the office's recommendation to permit the removal of 5 Mahogany trees total of (216cm), provided the procedures shall be fully undertaken by the applicant and under close monitoring and coordination by CCENRO personnel,” she added.
The council referred the recommendation to the committee on environment for review. — GMR (FREEMAN)
