CPPO to launch ‘Oplan Baklas’ on illegal campaign posters
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Police Provincial Office is set to conduct a one-time big-time Oplan Baklas as directed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The CPPO also assured political candidates that they will be “very fair” during the operation.
"According to my latest meeting with Attorney (Jerome) Brillantes, mag one-time, big-time operation kami ng Oplan Baklas, anytime soon," said Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano, CPPO director.
"At doon po sa mga candidates na ang concern nila ay mabaklasan sila ng campaign posters, ang assurance ko po ay we will be very very fair kahit sino ang nasa poster basta illegally posted tatanggalin namin iyon," he added.
Soriano said that during the operation, they will not be looking for whosoever the posters belong to adding that if it's posted beyond the guidelines, they will be removing it.
According to him, the baklas operation will be in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Comelec, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the CPPO.
Soriano also said that aside from providing area security they will be also participating in the actual baklas operation.
The Philippine National Police is deputized by the Comelec for the 2022 polls.
"Tutulong na rin kami. Seguro may area security pero meron din kaming baklas boys," said Soriano.
On his personal observation, Soriano said there are now several campaign materials being posted in the areas prohibited by the Comelec.
As there is no specific date yet on the baklas operation, Soriano appealed to local candidates whose campaign materials were illegally posted to take the initiative in removing it ahead of time.
"To our candidates, while hindi pa po na implement yung operation baklas ng PNP-AFP-COMELEC,I encourage you to dismantle nalang. Alam naman kung asan yung illegal, para naman di masayang materials nila kasi sa Oplan Baklas, mababasura talaga," said Soriano. — GMR (FREEMAN)
