Provincial goverment earmarks P10 million for solar street lights

CEBU, Philippines —   The Cebu provincial government has allotted a P10 million budget for the installation of solar-powered street lights in the towns and cities of Cebu Province.

The Capitol first installed the solar-powered streetlights in the three towns in Bantayan Island.

"Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia inaugurated the first three solar-powered streetlights in the island of Bantayan on Saturday, March 4, 2022: one in Barangay Talangnan in Madridejos, one in Barangay Sulangan in Bantayan and one in Barangay Marikaban in Santa Fe," according to the Cebu Capitol Information Office in its Facebook page.

The solar powered-street lights form part of the ongoing rehabilitation effort of Cebu Province after thousands of electric posts were toppled by Typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021.

“Di na mo mag-problema, ang mayor, mga barangay officials, kinsay mobayad sa kuryente. Ako naman nang gibayran kay solar man,” Garcia quoted saying by Sugbo News, the Capitol news-arm.

Garcia led the groundbreaking of the concrete lamp post pedestal in Madridejos last weekend when she visited the island of Bantayan for the caravan of services of the Cebu provincial government. — GMR (FREEMAN)
