Cebu City resumes Sputnik V jab today

“We received the vaccines karon lang gyung adlawa, niabot na gyud ang Sputnik,” Cebu City Health Department officer-in-charge Dr.Jeffrey Ibones said in yesterday’s presscon at the Cebu City Hall.

CEBU, Philippines —  The long wait is finally over for Cebu City residents, who received the first dose of Russia’s Sputnik V, with the arrival of over 5,000 doses of component 2 yesterday.

“We received the vaccines karon lang gyung adlawa, niabot na gyud ang Sputnik,” Cebu City Health Department officer-in-charge Dr.Jeffrey Ibones said in yesterday’s presscon at the Cebu City Hall.

Ibones said the city initially received 200 the other day while the rest arrived yesterday following the request of the Visayas Vaccination Operation Center(VVOC).

Though the much-awaited vaccines have already arrived, Dr.Ibones continues appealing to the Cebuanos to wait for their respective schedules.

“Ato lang hangyuon atong mga kaigsoonan to wait for their schedule,” he said.

Ibones said their target is to administer the second dose in the next three days in two vaccination sites.

Some city residents are scheduled today while others on Friday.  The rest of Sputnik V recipients will be on Saturday at the Noah Complex located at the South Road Properties, and University of Cebu on Alcantara Street.

Aside from that, Cebu City also got an additional 8,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines.

Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he is happy that the country’s vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez is now in communication with him and has promised to allocate 60,000 more vaccine doses.

“Wala nay undang..magbaha na ang bakuna…Ang importante, karon, kanang mga wapa nagpabakunan pabakuna na mo, parehistro na..Katong mga rehistrado na ug wapa mabakunahi kay wa mo nangadto didto, ayaw mog kaguol, di man na mudagan ang mga vaccination site...paghuwat lagn gyud mos mga announcement..Bakuna bakuna bakuna...nindot kaayo ang Desyembre..bakuna bakuna bakuna,..nindot kaayo ang Sinulog,” said Rama.

More Vaccines

The Department of Health in Central Visayas is set to receive today 128,700 doses of Pfizer vaccine.

Also, it got 51,480 doses of Pfizer last night.

The vaccines are allocated for Cebu.

As of September 16, 2021, DOH-7 received a total of 3,268,480 doses of seven brands of COVID-19 vaccines.

Also, DOH-7 data showed that as of September 21, 2021, a total of 2,524,262 doses—1,370,532 were for the first dose and 1,153,740 for the second dose—were already administered in Central Visayas.

In Cebu alone, as of the same date, a total of 1,893,097 doses were  administered across all public and private sector vaccination centers in Cebu. Of the said figures, 1,051,155 doses were administered for the first dose and 841,942  doses administered for the second dose.

On the other hand, Cebu Province, administered 665,228 doses (373,545 first dose and 291,683 second dose); Cebu City administered a total of 588,932 doses (333,175 first dose and 256,756 second dose); and Lapu-Lapu City administered 328,414 doses (170,596 first dose and 139,927 second dose).

Moreover, data showed that 50.28 percent or 154,576 of the 307,455 eligible population for inoculation in Mandaue City were already fully vaccinated, while 56.54 percent or 173,838 were administered with the first dose as of the said date.

 Mandaue City, which is the only local government unit in Metro Cebu so far to have fully vaccinated half of its targetted constituents, will be vaccinating today its public market vendors.

 The Mandaue City Vaccination Operation Center made this announcement as registration for the market vendors was done yesterday.

 The vaccination for market vendors will be done inside the public market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Consolacion town, its Bakuna Nights will resume today. This initiative is done every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. where walk-ins are allowed.

The Consolacion LGU, in its Facebook post, also reported that 50 percent of its police force are now fully vaccinated. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon, KQD (FREEMAN)
