CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has requested the Local School Board (LSB) to assist public schools and teachers in the timely purchase and additional provisions of printing equipment and materials.
This would include accessories in printing of modules for public schools in the city.
“It came to the attention of this representation that many elementary schools and teachers in Cebu City are in need of printing equipment and materials like printers and ink, bond papers and other related materials in the preparation, production and distribution of modules for their students,” said Councilor Raul Alcoseba.
Alcoseba sponsored a resolution regarding the matter which was approved by the City Council.
Alcoseba said some teachers use their own money and resources just to secure and/or procure materials just to keep up with the schedule in printing and releasing of modules for their students.
He said the city government through the LSB needs to consider the situation and assist public schools and teachers.
The City Council earlier acknowledged teachers for going above and beyond their call of duty amid the restriction of face-to-face classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council said it expressed its support and utmost gratitude to the city’s teachers in all levels.
“This Sanggunian would like to express our utmost gratitude to our selfless and seeming tireless educators who have remained dedicated, passionate and committed in delivering education to our youth despite the countless odds,” read the resolution sponsored by Councilor Jessica Resch.
Resch is the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president.
She said the city government should do all possible ways to assist the teachers in mitigating learning gaps by giving the necessary support in the form of additional funding, equipment, reliable internet service, and transportation, among others, and by pushing for legislative measures that will protect their rights and provide for their needs. — KQD (FREEMAN)
