CEBU, Philippines — At least four barangays in Cebu City have acquired new fire trucks from the city government.
The barangays are Duljo Fatima, Calamba, San Roque and San Jose.
Councilor Dave Tumulak said the new fire trucks can be used not only during fire incidents but also to deliver water to residents during dry season.
Tumulak said this also empowers the barangay officials to save their constituents during calamities.
Each fire truck costs around P3.5 million funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) funds.
Tumulak said the procurement processes have been started before the pandemic but were delayed.
Duljo Barangay Captain Elmer Abella expressed his gratitude to have a new fire truck for his barangay.
Abella said they have been intending to have one following several fire incidents happened in their barangay.
The barangay doesn’t own any fire truck and just relying on other units to respond during fire incidents.
Abella said they have no enough funds to purchase theuir own fire truck.
“Karon pa gyud mi naka fire truck, mao na pasalamat mi og dako sa atong Mayor, Konsehal Dave Tumulak, nila Edu Rama sila’y nag-follow up ani nga maka-fire truck mi. Kami nagplano mi pero among budget maglisud mi, ang City Hall ra gyud among makuan,” Abella said.
