Motorist dies in hit-and-run
CEBU, Philippines — A 30-year-old motorcycle rider was killed Friday evening in an alleged hit-and-run accident along the highway in Sitio Lacaron in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando town in southern Cebu.
The victim was identified as Dindo Aguanta, 30, a resident of the said barangay.
Initial investigations revealed that Aguanta on board his motorcycle was traveling along the highway in Sitio Lacoron when he was allegedly hit-and-run by a 10-wheeler truck around 10:45 p.m. Friday.
Police Staff Sergeant Randy Jakosalem from the town’s police station said a concerned citizen informed the responding officers that he saw a white 10-wheeler truck passing by the area around that time.
“Possible kuno nga 10-wheeler ang nakaigo, mao to ingon nga naa daw nalagpot based sa concerned citizen, kay wa may laing niagi pagkalagpot niya,” said Jakosalem.
Based on the accounts of the concerned citizen, the truck skidded along the road and sideswiped Aguanta, who lost control of the motorcycle and fell onto the pavement.
Aguanta was immediately brought to Carcar Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Jakosalem said the driver of the 10-wheeler truck might have no idea that he had hit the motorcycle considering that he was driving such a huge vehicle.
“Tungod saka dako sa truck bitaw, magdagan ang truck, og dika mabantayan sa driver, maigo gihapon ka sa lawas. Ang lawas maoy nakaigo niya ani ba. Mao na atong driver wala to kabantay nga naa siyay naigo,” he said.
