Gwen sets time for return of empty containers at CIP

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia

CEBU, Philippines —  Truck operators are only given eight hours to transport empty intermodal containers to container yards in the port zone area of the Cebu International Port (CIP) starting tomorrow, January 25.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia issued Executive Order No. 2-B regulating the return of empty intermodal containers and empty cargo trucks plying the national highway.

Under the EO, truck operators are allowed to transport empty intermodal containers to container yards within 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. only.

With this, the transport of the containers outside the time frame is prohibited.

“Empty trailer trucks - not carrying intermodal containers - shall be prohibited from plying the National Highway beginning from the boundary delineating the City of Mandaue and Canduman all the way through the Municipality of Consolacion until the border in Cotcot, Liloan delineating the Municipality of Liloan and the Municipality of Compostela,” read the order.

Earlier, Garcia issued Executive No. 2 regulating the release and pullout of cargo from the CIP from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Mondays to Sundays starting January 15.

The truck ban in the municipalities of Consolacion and Liloan starts from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This was due to the worsened traffic situation along the Central Nautical Highway that passes through the municipalities of Consolacion and Liloan during the release of their cargoes.

Last January 15, Garcia made an exemption as she issued EO No. 2-A allowing the release and pullout of cargo from the CIP intended for transfer to domestic base ports and other container yards located within the port zone area anytime of the day. — GMR (FREEMAN)
