Lapu-Lapu’s opposing camps work on their projects

CEBU, Philippines — Political differences have not impeded the officials of Lapu-Lapu City in initiating infrastructure projects for the benefit of their constituents.

Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Paz Radaza recently broke ground of the P47.1 million worth of drainage projects in the barangays of Babag, Mactan and Bankal.

Radaza said that the drainage project in Barangays Bankal and Mactan has a budget of P27.5 million while the drainage system project to be installed along national roads, secondary road and at the Mactan Circumferential Road in Barangay Babag has a budget of P19.6 million.

These drainage projects were implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways provided through the effort of Radaza’s congressional office.

Radaza said with the installation of drainage in the city, this will help solve and prevent the flood problem in different barangays especially those situated in low-lying areas.

Barangay captains in Babag, Bankal and Mactan expressed their thanks to Radaza for the realization of the project which is a great help in their respective barangays.

Earlier, Radaza also broke ground of the P46 million road and drainage project along Basak-Cagudoy, Buaya, Bankal and Pajac which serves as a continuation of the drainage project in the barangays of Babag, Mactan and Agus.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan likewise recently signed a memorandum of agreement with a private developer for the construction of the four-storey housing project in barangay Canjulao.

Chan said that this socialized housing project is a “dream come true” for the urban poor residents in the city as this is affordable even for the minimum wage earners.

Chan said that among the priority recipients include the families who were victims of storm surge last December.

Then the rest of priority will be the urban poor listed by the city government to ensure that recipient of the socialized housing project are poorest of the poor.

This program, the mayor said, is part of his agenda to alleviate the status of the city’s poor residents.

Chan also bared that the city has other socialized housing project.

“Busa, dili angay nga mabalaka ang uban nga dili maapil sa una natong proyekto kay anaa pa kitay umaabot nga laing site para niini. Mao kini ang hudyat nga mamahimo na ang atong siyudad og Little Hong Kong,” said the mayor in his Facebook post. — GMR (FREEMAN)
