CEBU, Philippines —  Almost half of the 80 barangays of Cebu City have finally received the hazard pay from the city government in line with their service in time for the COVID-19 pandemic yesterday.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella announced in yesterday’s press conference that a total of 38 barangays were able to comply with the requirement set.

“Karong adlawa, nakahatag na ta sa 38 barangays nga naka-comply sa mga requirements to be complied with,” said Labella.

Labella said the barangay frontliners including the barangay captains down to barangay tanods got hazard pay during the time when the city was placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 28 to May 31.

“Those barangay workers nga na-expose tawon as frontliners during the time that we were under ECQ, this was from March 28 to until May 31,” added Labella.

It is not known though whether or not, the city government will be giving another hazard pay during the time when city was again placed under another ECQ when the Covid-19 cases surged last June to July.

A total of 100 barangay frontliners are entitled to a hazard pay.

As of October 29, Cebu City has 174 active cases based on the Department of Health-Central Visayas’ case bulletin including the three new ones.

In the Emergency Operation Center’s own data, there are 141 active cases in Cebu City at present with 44 barangays zeroed in transmission. — GMR (FREEMAN)
