Personal grudge, love angles eyed in cop’s slay
CEBU, Philippines — Personal grudge and love angles are being eyed as motives in the killing of a member of the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO)
Police Corporal Marlon Belleres, 29, was shot dead by a lone gunman shortly after he left his home at Phase 2 Deca Homes, Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City Saturday morning. He was driving his motorcycle on his way to work.
Belleres suffered gunshot wounds to his nape, right arm, waist, and back, resulting in his instantaneous death.
Police Major Gerard Ace Pelare, Talisay City Police Station chief, said his office has already secured a copy of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
He said the case is different from the usual.
“Usually, two people are involved in gun-for-hire. But the suspect is alone. So he took the initiative of killing Belleres,” he said.
Belleres was assigned at Mabolo Police Station’s investigation section prior to his transfer to MPG in July last year.
Based on the security camera footage, the gunman was roving around the Belleres’ subdivision before the incident happened.
The assailant, who wore a full-face helmet, was reportedly around five feet and six inches tall.
Pelare said Talisay police are still hunting down the gunman.
Ex-detainee shot dead
In a separate development, a former prisoner linked to illegal drugs was shot dead in Barangay Tangke Talisay City Saturday.
Pelare said Talisay police are looking into illegal drugs as the possible motive in the killing of Bobby Badajos.
“Posible nga adunay nasuko o nakabikil ang biktima nga naa sa illegal nga negosyo,” he said.
Badajos was walking on the street of Barangay Tangke when four armed men on board two motorcycles fired at him based on CCTV footage secured by cops. KQD (FREEMAN)
