11 wanted men surrender

CEBU, Philippines —  Eleven persons accused of different cases surrendered to the Cebu City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) of Cebu City Police Office, while 11 assorted firearms were also confiscated in a span of three days starting last Monday until last Wednesday.

Among those who surrendered was a certain Lemuel Cortes, who claimed to be a nephew of the Mandaue City Mayor, Jonas Cortes, who has a pending warrant of arrest for frustrated homicide that was issued last Wednesday.

Another was a certain Librado Macaraya, who said he was an eye doctor who has a pending case for failing to pay the Social Security System remittances of his employees.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Randy Korret, CMFC chief, said that both of the two accused were able to post bail last Wednesday.

Aside from the two, nine persons also surrendered to authorities. They were identified as a certain John Cris Mejares, who has a pending case for attempted murder; Michael Torrejos for attempted murder; Ryan Ulysess Manalili, Ed Posadas, and Ricardo Alin for anti-drug violations; Alleda Opura for illegal gambling; James Ian Pitogo and Erik Badayos for attempted homicide; and Renan Tamayor for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

“Marami d’yan taga Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Cordova,” Korret said.

He added that it was during their campaign against loose firearms, when several people asked them if a wanted person can also surrender just like a surrendered illegal firearm.

Korret also said that there are still several pending warrants of arrest that still needed to be served. However, since court hearings were canceled due the COVID-19 threat, they have temporarily stopped their operations.

Meanwhile, 11 assorted firearms and different kinds of ammunition were also recovered by the CMFC following a three-day operation called Oplan Xenon around the barangays of Cebu City.

Among those that were confiscated were three improvised shotguns, four .38 cal. revolvers, a 9mm revolver, and a .22 cal. rifle. BRP (FREEMAN)
