CPDRC inmates get new uniforms, shoes

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) inmates have received their new sets of uniforms and pairs of shoes.

CPDRC warden Reynaldo Valmoria, in a report published by Sugbo News, the official news site of the Cebu Provincial Public Information Office (PIO), said the items were distributed to 1,900 inmates on January 9.

Out of 2,357 inmates, only 1,900 inmates received the uniforms and shoes since 457 were already released from CPDRC, he said.

Valmoria said 22 rolls for upper garment and 36 rolls for lower garment were used for the uniforms, which were sewed by nine inmates for five months.

The unused upper and lower garments and the 457 pairs of shoes were turned over to the Provincial General Services Office.

The provincial government spent around P500,000 for the yards of cloth and pairs of shoes for the inmates.

Valmoria said the Capitol will pay for the labor cost of the group of inmates who sewed the uniforms and those who worked on the printing of the CPDRC logo on the uniforms.

In August 2019, a month after assuming office, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia visited the facility to assess its condition.

During her visit, Garcia promised the inmates that they would receive new uniforms as part of her administration’s thrust to overhaul the provincial penitentiary.

The governor made the promise after seeing the ratty uniforms the inmates wore during their performance last year.  KQD (FREEMAN)
