On valentine’s day: Civil Registrar to waive fees

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has approved the waiving of all the fees of the civil registry documents during the One-Day Free Issuance of Civil Registry Documents on February 14.

On top of that, the Delayed Registration of Birth will run for free for the whole month of February.

Every February of the year, the Office of the City Civil Registrar (OCCR) celebrates Civil Registration Month pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 issued last January 28, 1991 to remind Filipinos of their duty to register acts and events concerning one’s civil status.

In a letter dated on January 16, 2020, the OCCR asked for the support from Councilor Renato Osmeña Jr. to sponsor their proposals to the City Council on their planned activities to enrich civil registration services.

In the proposed resolution, Osmeña had asked the council’s approval to waive all fees of the issuance of birth, marriage and death certificates on the One-Day Free Issuance of Civil Registry Documents on February 14, and the delayed registration for birth for the whole month.

The resolution also urged the City Legal Office (CLO) to provide assistance to all the clients in terms of preparation of affidavit and other legal documents and free notarial services.

Notarial fees and other legal fees related to Affidavit of Legitimation, Acknowledgement, Joint Affidavit of Witnesses, Affidavit of Delayed Registration and other Legal Instruments required for Delayed Registration of Birth would be waived.

The event is to be conducted in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to raise awareness and appreciation of legal, administrative, and statistical values of civil registry documents.

In the resolution, Osmeña said that OCCR has lined up activities that include mobile registry, free issuance of civil registry documents, among others. (FREEMAN)
