CEBU, Philippines — The Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival of South Korea will be joining in the Sinulog Parade 2020 as guest contingent.
Last year, Cebu saw a foreign group performing as guest contingent during the Sinulog Grand Parade.
Jojo Labella, Executive Director of the Sinulog Foundation Inc., said that this will be the second time for the group to join the festival, and this time their number has doubled.
From the 17 guests from the Korean contingent last year, the number has doubled to 35 this year.
They will be composed of two groups who will present Korean traditional performances.
Labella also shared that the Tribu Kabataan is something to look forward to. The Tribu Kabataan used to be the Kabataan Barangayan.
“Ang mga barangay siguro kay time element, or funding ang problema, mao ang mga choreographers themselves naghimo gyud sila og ilang grupo, mao ni ang Tribu Kabataan,” said Labella.
“Mura gihapon ug barangay-based, but this is more of like the battle of the choreographers, so nindot na,” he added.
There are 26 contingents for this year’s Sinulog, this after the directive of Mayor Edgardo Labella to limit the number of contingents to less than 30.
Mayor Labella made the remark after he was informed that the number of contingents for the festival on January 19 would reach to 35.
Last year, at least 24 contingents competed in the Sinulog ritual showdown at the Cebu City Sports Center. GAN (FREEMAN)
