Social services, agriculture top Pesquera’s agenda

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Agriculture, employment and social services are among the top agenda of Cebu City Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera, who is gunning for a seat in the House of Representatives.

During the #KnowYourCandidate with The FREEMAN yesterday, Pesquera presented her priority legislations for the May 13 midterm elections.

#KnowYourCandidate is an interview series for the CEBU VOTE, the election coverage of The FREEMAN and Banat News.

“I would say I deserve to be the one to be voted for congresswoman of the south district because I am very much prepared and at the same time I have the qualification to serve you. With my platform of government, I SERVE YOU, it’s really everything,” she said.

I SERVE stands for investment for agriculture; social services like establishment of district hospitals for the south district; employment opportunities; re-build to create open spaces for the public; voice to increase representation in the house, and environment to ensure balanced development and to ensure enough water supply.

YOU, on the other hand, stands for youth; open communication to practice consultative governance; and uncorrupted to advocate honesty, integrity, and good governance.

Pesquera, a lawyer and a certified public accountant by profession, said her priority programs include the improvement of the city’s agricultural industry, and the establishment of more market roads, among others.

Even in previous years, Pesquera said she submitted bills to the House of Representatives and the Senate through her legislator friends whom she did not name.

One of the proposals she submitted was a bill aiming to adjust the tax base of the income of workers. The proposal was approved into law, she said. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
