CEBU, Philippines — The Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) headquarters in Lapu-Lapu City has a new commander.
Commodore Dorvin Jose Legaspi now heads Navforcen, replacing Commodore Loumer Bernabe.
Legaspi was the deputy commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command and a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989.
In the ceremonial relinquishment of office at the Naval Base Rafael Ramos in Barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu yesterday, Bernabe urged Legaspi to further strengthen civic engagement.
“We want our navy in the Visayas to be relevant especially to the people. So fortify public engagement,” said Bernabe.
He also called on the navy to support the administration of Legaspi and to continue helping the people in the coastal communities.
It was also the request of Legaspi.
“Just asking for support and cooperation as their new commander the way they gave to their previous commander,” he said.
Rear Admiral Rommel Jude Ong, in his speech, recognized Bernabe for his loyalty, commitment and dedication to his work.
Bernabe, who served Navforcen for around three years, received the Distinguished Service Medal.
Navforcen is one of the Philippine Navy’s operating forces covering the Regions VI, VII and VIII of the Visayas Region. — Jahzeel Willow S. Coquico, USC Intern KBQ (FREEMAN)
