Mandaue barangays given disaster response vehicles

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — To provide more efficient emergency response, the Mandaue City Government gave motorcycles, ambulance vans to the barangays, and mobile kitchens to the City Social Welfare Services (CSWS) office last Monday.

City Public Information Officer Jun Veliganio said at least six motorcycles worth P132,000 each will be turned over to chosen barangays.

The city's Department of General Services, however, has yet to determine which barangays will get the motorcycles, according to Veliganio.

"Ang mga motor ihatag sab sa mga barangay pero wala pay listahan ang DGS kun asa nga mga barangay ipanghatag," Veliganio said.

The blessing and turnover of the units, which was witnessed by the Mandaue City Council and City Administrator Danilo Almendras, took place in the grounds of the Mandaue City Hall.

As for the two ambulance vans or "ambu-vans" worth P2.099 million each, Veliganio said these will be turned over to barangays Looc and Tabok.

"Para ni sa mga emergencies nga mahitabo sa ilang mga barangay aron naa dayo'y first responders," Veliganio said.

The mobile kitchens worth P1.485 million each were turned over to the CSWS last Monday. These will serve as kitchens for the CSWS staff so that they can easily provide hot meals for survivors of natural disasters like flood or fire.

Last month, the city government turned over three dump trucks, a boom truck, and four Toyota Avanzas to two departments of the Mandaue City Hall and four barangays.

The three dump trucks worth P1.8 million each were turned over to the Office of the City Engineer, while the boom truck which is worth P7.8 million was given to DGS. (FREEMAN)
