CEBU, Philippines — A former barangay captain who is a retired policeman assaulted a female traffic enforcer because of a traffic violation at around 3 p.m. Friday in front of a public market in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Fernando Cahilog was reportedly a passenger of a vehicle parked near a “No Stopping” sign.

PO3 Roberto Pepito of Pusok Police Station 5 said that enforcer Era Navarro, 39, who was manning the traffic in the area, allowed the car to park for 10 minutes for humanitarian reasons.  But after 10 minutes, Navarro approached the driver to ask him to move the vehicle.

However, Cahilog who was seated beside the driver allegedly got off and shouted at Navarro.

"You don’t know me, I’m a retired policeman,” Cahilog allegedly said based on report recorded in the police report.

Cahilog is the former village chief of Barangay Ibo and her wife, Mary Jane, is the incumbent barangay captain

Cahilog allegedly hit Navarro in the back, slapped her face and kicked her several times.

Despite being attacked, Navarro explained to Cahilog that she was only doing her job as a traffic enforcer.

Pepito said residents in the area who witnessed the confrontation also identified Cahilog as the one who attacked Navarro.

When sought for comment, Mary Jane declined saying her husband should be the one to give a statement.

Cahilog reportedly has a pending case in court for allegedly assaulting a minor.

Pepito said Navarro will file a case of direct assault against Cahilog. (FREEMAN)
