Talisay acquires two brand-new garbage trucks

CEBU, Philippines - To improve Talisay City's garbage collection, the city government has acquired two brand-new garbage trucks which are expected to begin collecting the city's trash as soon as truck labels and identifying stickers are in place.

According to General Services Head Joan Vebar, Isuzu Trucks won the bidding conducted by the city earlier this year for the acquisition of the garbage trucks.

Vebar added that the budget used to purchase these trucks was taken from the previous administration of former Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes.

Talisay City's Solid Waste Management Office Head Edwin Nierves said he was glad his request for additional garbage trucks was granted by Mayor Eduardo Gullas.

Nierves said that as soon as Gullas took office as mayor, he immediately sent his request for the purchase of garbage trucks.

He also disclosed that of the ten city-owned garbage trucks, only two or three are operational since January. This month, he said only one garbage truck is still operational.

Since January, the city had to rent six garbage trucks from a private company, Orbiso and San Vic Tracking, in order to accommodate the volume of waste produced from the barangays and the city’s facilities.

Four of these rented garbage trucks are assigned to collect garbage within the city while a separate truck was assigned to collect garbage from the city’s public market and slaughterhouse.

The rental for each truck is P6,000 per day, including the amount for driver, fuel and maintenance fees.

—/JBB (FREEMAN)
