CEBU, Philippines - No subdivision and housing projects will rise in Talisay City in the next three years.
This, after the City Council approved a three-year moratorium on all applicants of simple subdivision or other housing projects in Talisay through a resolution, authored by City Councilor Rodolfo Cabigas, during their regular session last Tuesday.
The moratorium was approved in the hope of implementing the city’s Comprehensive Drainage Plan, Barangay Development plan and the enhancement of road size standards.
However, they will allow other housing projects like condominiums to be built, but only along the 300-meter strip of the Special Local Economic and Development Area (SLEDA) located at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Cabigas told reporters that there are a number of housing and subdivision projects that are currently built in the city.
“Ang problema man gud sa Talisay karon tan-aw nato, sobra na kaayo ang housing projects unya karon wala pa ka put in place sa drainage system. Problema ta sa traffic, problema ta sa peace and order, so mao na nga ato usa i-moratorium ang housing projects,” he said.
After the resolution was approved, applications from real estate companies to build a subdivision or any housing project will be denied.
Cabigas stressed that the issuance of the moratorium will pave the way for the activation of the city's Comprehensive Drainage Plan, update the traffic system and improve the peace and order of the city.
Mayor Eduardo Gullas, for his part, said that they need to regulate housing projects in the City.
“We have to regulate it. We might eat more than what we can chew. Ang mo-suffer kay atong delivery of basic services,” he said.
Gullas said that it is ideal that condominiums will be built along SRP because the location will attract investors.
But he clarified that city government projects are exempted from the moratorium.
Gullas added that during the moratorium, their priority is the drainage master plan. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
