Talisay urban poor group to form new federation
CEBU, Philippines - An existing urban poor federation in Talisay City would probably be dissolved after city councilor Doroteo Emit confirmed that some of its leaders will be forming a new federation.
This followed after the Federation of Talisay City Urban Dwellers Association (FETCUDA) was not considered as the city’s official federation of the urban poor after discovering that it was not registered with the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).
Earlier, Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao has set aside the idea of creating a new federation. He said that instead of dissolving FETCUDA, replacing irresponsible officers would be a better decision.
Emit admits that with the consent of Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas, he is guiding the leaders in creating the new federation, considering that he is still the city council’s Chairman of the Committee on the Urban Poor.
Probably within this year, the new federation would be created and must then secure the registration with HLURB to make it the city’s official federation.
The new federation would be named as the City of Talisay Federation of Urban Dwellers Association (CT-FUDA).
Furthermore, Emit said that he will be asking the support of his co-councilors when they will meet on Tuesday, May 9, to vote on whether to retain or replace him as chairman of the committee for the urban poor.
“Hangyo lang ko nga if ever they voted against me then please support, if you still consider me as your alliance then you have to support your yes or no aron makahibaw pud ko," he said.
It was reported that after two months of investigation, the council would announce their decision regarding the petition filed calling for Emit to vacate the chairmanship post.
Emit also hopes that the body would focus on his merit rather than any political issue.
“Ako lang ihangyo nila nga kung muhatag sila ug muitsa sila sa ilang mga opinion bahin kanako ug unsay akong sangputanan, ang merito lang gyud sa ilahang petition. Balikon nako nga dili lang gyud unta sagulan ug pamolitika," he added. — Iris Mariani B. Algabre and Arvie N. Veloso (FREEMAN)
