Police informer shot dead in Talisay

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman was killed in a shooting incident in front of a mall in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City early dawn yesterday.

Her death came after she gave information to police that led to the arrest of seven drug personalities on Wednesday and yesterday.

The victim was identified as "Kenyar," in her mid 20s, who is temporarily residing in Sitio Hawod, Barangay Bulacao.

According to report, at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Kenyar was walking in front of Gaisano Fiesta Mall when an unidentified man arrived and shot her in the back of her head.

She was rushed to Talisay District Hospital but did not make it there alive.

"Posible, gipatay ni siya sa mga taw nga iyang gipangsulti," said Talisay Police Station deputy chief Senior Inspector Albert Quilitorio.

Quilitorio said the victim is also on their target list and that she was able to give them names of personalities involved.

He said her live in partner was also involved in illegal drugs and was arrested by Talisay police last year.

Before she was killed yesterday, Kenyar had given several tips to Talisay City police that led to a series of buy-bust operations and arrest of seven drug personalities, according to Quilitorio.

Around 3:10 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7, a buy bust operation was conducted along Fidel Bas St., Upper Mohon, Barangay Mohon after police validated Kenyar’s information.

Their target was a certain “Dondon,” who is included on the station’s target list.

But the subject noticed the presence of police and eluded arrest by jumping over the fence of his house, leaving behind his cohorts who were caught in the act in possession of packs of illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

Despite Dondon's escape, police arrested Adhman Canangcaan, 40, a resident from Sitio Crusher, Barangay Lawaan 3.

Canangcaan is the cousin and the driver of Felix Abacajan, another high-value target who also eluded arrest last year. Police recovered drug paraphernalia from Canangcaan’s possession.

Dennis Laborada, 30, a resident of Sitio Mangahan San Roque, was also arrested and police confiscated one .45 caliber pistol with five live bullets and eight packs of suspected shabu from his possession. Also arrested was Rizzamae Cacharro, 20, a resident from Barangay Upper Calajoan, Minglanilla.

Later that evening around 9 p.m., another buy-bust operation was conducted at Sitio Sombria, Barangay Lawaan 1 after police received information from Kenyar that Dondon was spotted in the area.

During the operation, however, someone shouted “Goberno!” which made Dondon run towards the Mananga River and elude arrest for the second time.

Dondon's cohort, Lucky Van Entice, alias Teban, 26, a resident of Ingga Uyuk in Upper Tunghaan, Minglanilla, attempted to escape but was arrested by police.

Entice was found in possession of two medium packs of suspected shabu weighing 8 grams total and worth P94,400. Police also confiscated his motorcycle with improvise plate number CD 85101.

Around 2:30 a.m. yesterday, police proceeded to check on the information leaked by Kenyar in Sitio Hawod, Barangay Bulacao.

They were able to arrest Gerald Joy Baguio, alias Insek, 29, a resident of the place and recovered one pack of suspected shabu from his possession.

Police also arrested Jeffrey Cabellon, 26, and Ryan Clifford Bacus for obstruction of justice.

The suspects refused to be interviewed and are now detained at the station. (FREEMAN)
