CEBU, Philippines - A 41-year-old woman was rescued after she allegedly jumped off the Marcelo Fernan Bridge on the side of Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City at around 9:35 a.m. yesterday.

Mary Grace Palomares, resident of Barangay Ibo, was immediately given medical attention by personnel of Philippine Red Cross–Lapu-Lapu and Cordova Chapter for the wounds in her back.

According to Pusok Barangay Councilor Marita Layage, who quickly responded to the incident, which happened just several meters away from the barangay hall, said one of the nearby residents saw Palomares walking along the sidewalk on the left portion of the bridge and then jumped down into the water.

Layage said Palomares was immediately rescued by a man who was on a motorized pumpboat.

She added that Palomares did not respond to them when they asked her why she jumped off the bridge.

Senior Inspector Wayne Magbanua, Chief of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office - Station 5 said they are currently investigating the incident.

Palomares was sent to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital for further medical attention, according to Layage. (FREEMAN)
